Memphis Style Cabinet by Dutch Architect Wim Hofman 1980s
This piece was created as part of a special architectural commission, where Hofman was invited to design the interior and furniture for a building by renowned Dutch architect Fons Verheyen.
The design clearly reflects the influence of the Memphis Group, the radical Italian postmodern movement founded by Ettore Sottsass. Memphis design is characterized by its expressive use of color, geometric playfulness, and its rejection of modernist restraint in favor of bold, sculptural expression.
The cabinet features black marble-look door panels and contrasting tall tubular legs in mint green, finished with characteristic blue feet. The material and color palette create a strong visual tension between solidity and lightness, resulting in a highly graphic and architectural presence.
A rare and collectible example of Dutch design at the intersection of architecture and the expressive, radical spirit of 1980s postmodernism.
The piece remains in excellent condition, with some patina to the top as shown in the photos. No damages or repairs.
